At Nest&Cut, our mission is simple: help you save time and materials through an intuitive web application. One of the most effective ways to achieve this is by generating a file directly compatible with your machine. For many users, that means exporting G-Code – which is why this format was one of the very first we integrated.
What is G-Code?
G-Code (short for Geometric Code) is the standard language used to control computer numerical control (CNC) machines. Created in the 1960s by the Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA), G-Code has since become a cornerstone of the industry. Since the 1980s, it has been standardized by ISO (latest version: ISO 14649-11:2004).
Why is G-Code so widespread?
G-Code owes its success to its flexibility. Each manufacturer can adapt it to meet the specific needs of their machines. This explains why G-Code is used in so many technologies:
- CNC machining
- 3D printing
- Welding
- Laser cutting, plasma cutting, waterjet cutting, wire EDM…
In other words, GCode is universal, yet never static.
A customizable G-Code in Nest&Cut
Our GCode exporter is one of the most used features in Nest&Cut. To take it further, we redesigned how it works to offer the same flexibility as GCode itself.
With the new exporter version, you can:
- Adapt the GCode to your machine’s specifications
- Remove unnecessary instructions
- Add custom GCode commands (for example, before the cutting process starts)
- Create and save multiple GCode machine configurations in your settings
This way, you get a GCode perfectly adjusted to your equipment’s behavior.
Easily activate CAM features
Once your machine configuration is set, you can go further by selecting which CAM features to enable. At Nest&Cut, we’ve simplified this step: just tick the options you want, and our algorithms automatically apply the right technical parameters to ensure an optimal GCode output for your cutting process.
Try it out and share your feedback
As always with Nest&Cut, we value your feedback and ideas to keep improving our software and web apps. The G-Code export is no exception: the more specific your needs, the more precise and efficient our solution becomes.
